Abstract

A series of novel yellowish green emitting phosphors Sr3P4O13:Tb3+ have been synthesized successfully via a conventional high temperature solid state reaction, and characterized by X ray diffraction, photoluminescence excitation/emission spectra and decay curve for the first time. The concentration quenching phenomenon of Tb3+ was observed, and the optim al doping concentration of Tb3+ in Sr3P4O13 was ab out 0.1. T he critical distance of Tb3+ ion was calculated to be about 17.3 Å, indicating the multipole multipole interaction could play an important role on the concentration quenching phenomenon of Tb3+ in Sr3P4O13 host. The average decay time and CIE chromaticity coordinates w ere also determined for Sr3P4O130.1Tb3+ phosphor with optimal photoluminescence intensity. The as prepared Sr3P4O13:Tb3+ phosphor could be excited by ultraviolet, and exhibit yellowish green emission with short decay time of milliseconds, indicating the potential application in display and lighting region..
