Abstract

The synthesis and up-conversion (UC) luminescence properties of Er3+/Yb3+ co-doped oxy-fluoride phosphors are reported in this paper. The phosphors were synthesized by the high-temperature melting method and phase identified by X-ray diffraction. Intense red and green emissions were observed under 980 nm excitation which were ascribed to the 4F9/2→4I15/2 and 4H11/2, 4S3/2→4I15/2 transitions of Er3+, respectively. Mechanisms of UC by two and three-photon and energy transfer process were interpreted and explained. The color coordinates were measured and the tunable UC luminescence was analyzed. The CIE diagram shows that the samples with different Yb3+ ion concentrations exhibit different colors..
