Abstract

The degradation resistance of LDPE electrical insulations is qualified under accelerated ageing by the exposure gamma radiation. LDPE compounded samples contain FeO, Fe2O3,, CrO3, or TiO2 in the concentration of 1 %. The effect of compounding upon the stability of LDPE insulations is discussed based on structural modifications revealed by FTIR spectroscopy and electrical resistivities pointed out by volume and surface conduction measurements. The considerations concerning the role of metallic impurities are presented for the evaluation of long term stability of electrical cables insulated with LDPE..
