Abstract

This study presents a TCAD-based optical–electrical analysis of nanostructured amorphous silicon (a-Si) p–i–n solar cells incorporating pyramidal textures, microlens arrays, and cylindrical scattering layers. The effects of surface texturing on optical absorption, photocurrent density, and light-trapping behaviour were systematically investigated using SILVACO simulation. Comparative analysis revealed that cylindrical scattering structures provide the most effective light-management strategy by improving long-wavelength photon confinement and increasing optical path length, resulting in a short-circuit current density of approximately 9–10 mA/cm² and enhanced overall device performance.
